Today greatest of all the
problems is that of hunger which the world is facing. So many people throughout the globe live in a
continuous state of hunger and poverty, and they have very little recourse for
finding a way out of that state. Especially if people have no means of creating
more money, giving money directly isn’t going to solve much. The problem with
poverty is that it is a sort of self-fulfilling system. People are incapable of
earning money in a capitalist society and they have to fall on subsistence to
survive. But, if growing crops isn’t available to them, then they are forced to
go hungry. This obviously leads to hazardous health issues that don’t have any
easy fixes. But, Joseph Farivar, a businessman from California, believes that
corporations need to start doing their fair share to ensure that poverty
becomes a thing of the past.
Over 800 million people live in poverty or hunger currently.
That’s nearly 1/7 of the human population. This is made worse when you consider
that our planet produces enough food for every human to have at least 2,700
calories in their diet per day. That is around the recommended amount of
calories for most people. But, this goal is still not being met (by a long
shot). Charities and international organizations like the United Nations have
put forth efforts into ending hunger and poverty in less-developed nations.
Their efforts have certainly helped millions of people worldwide, but they
cannot solve the problems on their own.
Corporations have a considerable amount of sway when it comes to
monetary implications. Joseph Farivar believes that many corporations can start
doing more to help their fellow man by donating money to non-profit
organizations that have been proven to help less fortunate people. Many giant corporations
tend to have money to spare, but they may focus that cash flow in the wrong
direction. Non-profit organizations are, by their nature, underfunded. They
don’t operate for the good of the few; they operate for the good of all. That
means that much of their monetary income is spent on helping achieve their main
objectives. With the sponsorship of a corporate entity, many non-profit
charities could help many individuals see brighter days ahead. A non-profit
like Soles for Souls that helps give shoes to the less fortunate could use
financial donations to help make their dreams a reality.
Farivar believes that corporations can lend a much larger
helping hand than they are now. They also have much more recourse for doing so
than any governmental organizations. According to Farivar, it’s time for
corporations to step up to the plate and start fighting for the global good.
